PSG and the battle to reverse Mbappe's future

PSG vs Real Madrid is not only a match to win tickets to the Champions League quarter-finals, this confrontation also has a direct impact on Kylian Mbappe's future.

Many French fans say that although Mbappe still lives in Paris, his soul has long been with Madrid. Only the Paris Saint-Germain leadership has not given up hope of keeping this player. The former AS Monaco striker is too important in the development strategy of the Ligue 1 giants.

In the transfer window last summer, PSG was told to reject Real Madrid's offer of 220 million euros for Mbappe. Not many teams in the world dare to do that. Mbappe's current contract with the French team will expire in June 2022. If this player leaves on a free basis, PSG will receive nothing in return. In other words, why might Qatari bosses be willing to throw 220 million euros in the trash?

Mbappe's Fear

In the summer of 2021, PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi announced: "Mbappe is not going anywhere and this player can never leave on a free basis." A few months later, Mbappe admitted he was really scared when he heard the PSG board say that.

"When I heard his words (Khelaifi - PV), I felt short of breath," admitted the French striker in October 2021. "Those words scared me a little."

Mbappe doesn't understand why he can't decide his own future. If desired, he can leave PSG on a free form.

However, the somewhat threatening words of Mr. Khelaifi still make a young player like Mbappe worried. Most fans and experts believe that the French striker will choose Real Madrid as the next stop in his career. Managers Arsene Wenger or Brendan Rodgers once said that when a player enters the final year of their contract, it is very difficult for anyone to stop them from leaving on a free form.

From the club owner to the coach, teammates or fans, no one can make Mbappe difficult. Almost only the PSG board and the Qatari owners believe they can reverse Mbappe's decision.

After the somewhat threatening words is an indulgent attitude. The day PSG announced the signing of Lionel Messi, Mr. Khelaifi once lamented that he did not know what more they had to do to make Mbappe commit his future to the club.

The French striker needs excellent teammates? Neymar signed a new contract with PSG in May 2021. Four months later, Lionel Messi arrived at the Parc des Princes. The names of world football like Sergio Ramos or Gianluigi Donnarumma also gathered in Paris this season.

Financially, PSG is ready to make Mbappe the highest-paid player in the world today, with an income equal to or even more than Neymar and Messi. Coach Mauricio Pochettino could also be sacked to make room for Zinedine Zidane, Mbappe's childhood idol.

To explain Mbappe's intention to leave, one must evaluate from many angles. "I always want to discover new things," Mbappe said in October 2021. "I've been playing in France for six or seven years. Even though I'm young, I think I've achieved great results."

Mbappe hinted that it was time for him to compete in another environment to challenge himself. The striker born in 1998 emerged early, impressed and won the World Cup at the age of 19. But in the last two years, Mbappe has shown signs of slowing down. The PSG striker grimaced when he was informed that he only finished 9th in the race for the Golden Ball (Ballon d'Or) 2021.

Mbappe is ambitious and has never hidden his intention to become the best player. To be honored in individual awards, this spearhead needs to conquer the highest titles and play in tournaments that convince the experts.

Is Ligue 1 a better league than La Liga or the English Premier League? It's very hard to believe that.

In UEFA's ranking at the end of August 2021, Ligue 1 fell out of the top 5 European leagues (calculated by coefficient points). In the last 5 seasons, Ligue 1 has a lower coefficient than the Primeira Liga (Portugal).

Mbappe fears that continuing to play at PSG could delay his career. Mbappe has won the Ligue 1 4 times, scoring 90 goals in the highest playing field in France. He also conquered the World Cup or the UEFA Nations League in the national team shirt. Only when PSG help Mbappe realize his ambition to win the Champions League, things may be different.
